In the UK, a medical team utilized the Apple Vision Pro headset during two spinal surgeries, aligning with Apple's healthcare vision for the device.

At Cromwell Hospital in London, a medical team utilized the $3,500 Apple Vision Pro during two spinal surgeries. The device, deemed a "game-changing" tool by doctors, supports Apple's assertions that the headset has potential applications as a medical device.

While the surgeons themselves did not wear the Vision Pro, a scrub nurse reportedly wore the VR goggles during the surgery preparations and procedures. The Vision Pro played a crucial role in displaying virtual screens in the operating room, assisting in tool selection and monitoring the progress of the surgeries.

Cromwell Hospital utilized software developed by eXeX, a company specializing in AI-driven apps designed for surgeons. Syed Aftab, one of the surgeons at Cromwell, expressed in a press release that collaborating with eXeX to employ the Apple Vision Pro has significantly improved patient care delivery. The surgical team at Cromwell is recognized as the first in the UK and Europe to use this software during surgery, with anticipation for the technology's advancement and its potential impact across hospitals.

According to a recent Apple press release, Stryker is promoting the "myMako" app for the Vision Pro. This app aids doctors in developing surgical plans for hip and knee replacements through the use of 3D models and other tools. Various other companies and developers are leveraging the Vision Pro for medical training and education, with apps like Fundamental Surgery, CollaboratOR 3D, and Complete HeartX.

"leveraging the distinctive capabilities of visionOS, healthcare developers are developing novel applications that were previously inaccessible, revolutionizing sectors like clinical education, surgical planning, training, medical imaging, behavioral health, and beyond," stated Apple in its press release.
