Spotify has introduced a highly requested Miniplayer to its desktop application, allowing users to easily control playback while multitasking. This resizable floating window grants access to various audio controls, such as changing tracks, selecting playlists, and adjusting volume. The feature has begun rolling out to Premium subscribers.

Upon availability, users can access the Spotify Desktop Miniplayer by clicking on a square icon located at the far lower right corner of the app, adjacent to the standard playback controls. Once activated, a floating window appears alongside the full application.

The Miniplayer can be resized to function in a square aspect ratio, suitable for videos, or as a thinner bar for minimal intrusion, offering play/pause and skip track controls alongside track information and album art.

This addition potentially eliminates the need for third-party apps like Alfred Spotify Mini Player, Lofi Spotify Mini Player, and SpotMenu, which filled the void for users seeking such functionality. Spotify's community post from 2019, requesting the feature, garnered over 3,000 upvotes. Notably, Apple Music has offered an equivalent MiniPlayer for macOS and Windows for some time.Spotify has initially rolled out the Miniplayer to Premium subscribers, hinting at potential availability for free plan users in the future. Premium subscribers can anticipate the appearance of the square toggle icon in the lower right corner of the desktop app soon.
