Unlike Microsoft's Recall feature, Google's Pixel Screenshots emphasizes privacy.

According to Android Authority, the Google Pixel 9 will introduce new features labeled under "Google AI," including "Pixel Screenshots." This functionality employs AI to search screenshots effectively, generating summaries to answer questions about their content. Additionally, the app saves metadata such as app names, web links, and capture timestamps for future searchability based on these details. A Google insider described the feature as creating a searchable archive by capturing and processing useful information from screenshots. Pixel Screenshots has been likened to Microsoft's Recall feature, which has faced privacy concerns due to its AI-powered capability to retrieve past PC activities, prompting adjustments by Microsoft to ensure clearer user consent.

Pixel Screenshots prioritizes privacy over Microsoft’s Recall feature

Unlike Microsoft's Recall feature, Google's Pixel Screenshots emphasizes privacy. It only analyzes data from screenshots locally without uploading anything to the cloud. Users have full control as it's opt-in, requiring access to media files only if AI processing is enabled. Those opting out can still use the app to view screenshots without AI processing or searchable data.

Upcoming Google AI features unveiled

Google AI is set to introduce several new features, including the "Add Me" camera function aimed at inclusive group photos, akin to Google's Best Take feature. "Studio," renamed from the "Creative Assistant," will integrate with Pixel's screenshot editor to generate stickers and possibly AI-generated images. More details on these innovations are expected to be revealed at the Made by Google event on August 13, alongside the launch of the Pixel 9 series.
