The update follows criticism directed at Google Gemini for its responses on topics related to pedophilia and historical images

In a bid to offer users increased control, Google has introduced a new feature for its Gemini artificial intelligence (AI). This feature allows users who initiate interactions with the chatbot to edit responses that are inaccurate, not of the appropriate length, or unsuitable for their requirements. Google explained that this new capability enables users to fine-tune Gemini's responses more precisely. The feature is initially available in English within the Gemini web app.

Users can select a portion of the generated text, provide instructions to Gemini, and receive an output that better aligns with their preferences. The update emphasizes the goal of granting users greater control over their creative process by allowing them to iterate on content and ideas within the framework of the original response. After Gemini generates an initial response to a prompt, users can use the pencil tool pop-up to highlight specific portions of the text and make modifications.

The tool offers various options, allowing users to regenerate, shorten, lengthen, or entirely remove the response. Additionally, it provides the capability to insert another prompt into the highlighted section, offering specific instructions on how the user wants the content to be altered.

For instance, if Fox News Digital instructs Gemini to generate an advertising campaign promoting the advantages of drinking water, Gemini produces a detailed response covering various aspects such as messaging, visuals, community outreach, tone, and more.

Within the informational content segment, Gemini suggests creating brief, engaging videos and articles that highlight the positive effects of drinking water on physical and mental health, improved mood, and increased energy levels. The recommendation also includes sharing interesting facts about water and dispelling myths about sugary drinks.

Modifying the response to a shorter version results in the concise directive: "Create short, engaging content highlighting water's benefits for health, mood, and energy. Debunk sugary drink myths."

Choosing to lengthen the response will lead to the creation of detailed subsections that delve into information on health, mood, energy, and the debunking of myths.

Furthermore, if an extra prompt is introduced to the informative content section, such as "Give me detailed info on the health benefits of water with statistics," Gemini adjusts the text to provide an abundance of facts supported by numerical data. This includes information on water's impact on regulating body temperature, lubricating joints, aiding digestion, enhancing cognitive function, and flushing toxins. Gemini also ensures to include citations for the sources of the information.

It's important to note that this update is currently accessible only in English through the web application version of Gemini.

Google's co-founder acknowledges the company's error in Gemini's image generation.

The introduction of this new feature is expected to be a time-saving measure for users. Previously, AI chatbots required an entirely new prompt to influence the entire response, rather than modifying specific portions. This often resulted in numerous iterations before users achieved the desired outcome. The update aims to address user concerns, particularly regarding recent chatbot responses on sensitive topics like pedophilia and the notorious Soviet Union dictator Joseph Stalin, by offering users greater control over the content.

A representative from Google informed Fox News Digital that the responses were deemed "appalling and inappropriate." They assured that an update would be implemented to prevent such responses from being displayed. The spokesperson emphasized that Gemini is designed as a tool for creativity and productivity, acknowledging its occasional lack of reliability. In this particular instance, the response was acknowledged as incorrect, and ongoing efforts are being made to enhance the system.
