SpaceVIP, a premier luxury space tourism firm, has enlisted the services of a Danish chef from a Michelin-starred eatery for its six-hour high-tech space balloon excursion.

Wealthy gastronomes and space enthusiasts will soon have the opportunity to savor gourmet meals in the stratosphere, provided they're willing to fork out nearly $500,000 per ticket. Less than 24 hours after the announcement of the excursion, numerous individuals have expressed interest in signing up. SpaceVIP, a luxury space travel enterprise, has enlisted the talents of a Danish chef from a Michelin-starred establishment for the forthcoming six-hour high-tech space balloon journey, slated to launch next year.

Rasmus Munk will curate the menu for the six travelers who will ascend to 100,000 feet (approximately 30 kilometers) above sea level. From this vantage point, they will dine while observing the sunrise against the curvature of the Earth, with onboard Wi-Fi enabling them to livestream the experience to friends and family back home.

While the menu is still under development, the 32-year-old chef expressed his desire, in an interview with Bloomberg, for the dishes to mirror the innovative nature of the journey. Ideas include aerogel-inspired cuisine and encapsulated aroma. As the chef at Danish restaurant Alchemist, ranked fifth in the World's Best 50 Restaurants guide for 2023, he brings a wealth of culinary expertise to the table.

Despite the hefty price, Munk noted that there is a surplus of interest in the inaugural trip, surpassing the spacecraft's capacity. "We recognize that this initial journey comes with a steep cost. However, it marks the debut of these onboard culinary experiences," stated Munk, who will be partaking in the excursion. He revealed plans to arrange additional trips and reduce prices later on, aiming to make the experience accessible to a broader audience.

SpaceVIP founder Roman Chiporukha stated, "We've received significant interest from numerous qualified participants for this experience, and with only six seats available, we anticipate filling all spots in the coming weeks."

According to a statement, the spacecraft constructed by Space Perspectives does not necessitate any training or specialized equipment. Instead, a pressurized capsule will be hoisted by a space balloon, a technology pioneered by NASA, rather than a rocket. Test flights are scheduled to commence next month.

In a similar venture, the France-based company Zephalto revealed plans last year to provide individuals with the opportunity to dine aboard a balloon at the edge of the stratosphere for a minimum of $132,000, beginning in 2025.
