Apple launches public beta for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and MacOS Sequoia
Apple has released public betas for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and MacOS Sequoia, featuring new updates and enhancements for users to explore.
As promised, Apple has rolled out public beta versions of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia for members of its free testing program. In addition to these updates, watchOS 11 and tvOS 18 betas are also available, following the release of the third developer beta for these platforms.
While the betas for iPhone, iPad, and Mac do not yet include the anticipated Apple Intelligence feature, which is set to launch in the fall, they do incorporate many exciting functionalities introduced at WWDC in June.
iOS 18 brings a more customizable home screen, allowing users to create spaces between app icons and choose personalized colors. Users can also customize lock screen shortcuts, while the Control Center has transformed into a multi-page interface that supports third-party integrations. The redesigned Photos app enhances image organization, and Messages now features improved RCS chat support, scheduled texting, text effects, and satellite messaging capabilities for newer iPhone models. Additionally, Safari offers website summaries, and a new dedicated Passwords app helps users manage their sign-ins more efficiently.
iPadOS 18 includes most of the features from iOS 18 but adds a highly requested calculator app, complete with a Math Notes feature capable of solving handwritten equations. It also offers advanced handwriting recognition to refine and correct user inputs.
macOS Sequoia introduces iPhone Mirroring, allowing users to control their iPhones directly from their Macs, even when the phone is locked. The update enhances window tiling for a more intuitive experience and includes all the non-cellular features found in the iPhone and iPad updates.
watchOS 11 unveils a new Vitals app that tracks essential health metrics, including heart rate and sleep quality. The Smart Stack feature enhances app recommendations and introduces new widgets, such as translation and Shazam. In fitness tracking, users can pause their activity ring and account for new metrics, including training load.
tvOS 18 introduces an Amazon X-ray-like InSight feature that displays casting details and other information for Apple TV+ content. This update also improves dialogue clarity and supports ultra-wide 21:9 displays.
The final versions of all these updates are anticipated to be released in the fall, likely in September or October, bringing even more features and enhancements to users.
