Android 15 to unveil your device's storage condition
Android 15 introduces a feature to reveal the health of your device's storage, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.
Android 15 is set to introduce a highly beneficial feature that sheds light on the overall health and durability of your device's storage chip. Currently, users lack sufficient insight into crucial aspects of managing an Android phone. While manufacturers typically offer software support guarantees, hardware support is often overlooked. However, the Android 15 update aims to change this narrative.
According to Android Authority, Google has been diligently working on providing users with vital information about their phone's components. Although battery health details were previously available, they were removed in the Android 14 QPR2 update. Nonetheless, this feature is expected to make a comeback, initially targeting users of the upcoming Google Pixel 8a and its successors.
Android 15 is rumored to include information about the health of the phone's internal storage, accessible through a new "Device Diagnostics" app. Utilizing a new API, this feature will estimate the "remaining lifetime" of the storage, providing users with insights into its longevity. For example, a 90% reading would signify that the phone's storage has plenty of life left.
While the API is already integrated into Android 15 beta 1, further details are anticipated. However, the code has not yet been released to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), as it was merged directly into Google's internal Android codebase. This repository serves as the foundation for constructing Android builds, with the API disseminating information to Android's system apps.
